Video: Can a Tesla Cybertruck Power a Camping Trailer with Two Air Conditioners? Let’s Find Out!

2024 Tesla Cybertruck power up camper camping trailer

Can a Tesla Cybertruck power a camping trailer with two air conditioners and all appliances on? Let’s find out.

This video is made possible thanks to our friend Eric at @Butter_EV Youtube channel. Eric provided his Cybertruck and the camping trailer. One of the benefits of an electrified pickup truck is the power export capability. This started with the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid. This F-150 provided up to 7.2 kW of power export at 240V. Tesla says that the Cybertruck is capable of up to 11.5 kW of power export at 240V to power your house during an outage. We put it to the test with a large camping trailer.

Generally speaking, small kitchen appliances are not a big challenge for such a system. We started out by powering a coffee maker and a toaster. The Cybertruck took care of this with no problem. We added a microwave oven and an electric fireplace. The Cybertruck handled it as well. Next up is adding the AC units (one at a time). We want to mimic what Eric would be doing in the desert while camping with his family.

An air conditioning unit has a tendency to have a large power surge on startup and then settle down. To our surprise, the first AC unit came online without much trouble. The second AC unit did as well. This is a newer camping trailer, so it may have “soft start” AC units. Nonetheless, this is very impressive. The Cybertruck is able to take care of all camping trailer’s power needs, at least during our test.

How long can a Cybertruck power a trailer like this? It depends on which accessories are running. The current Cybertruck has a 123 kWh battery capacity. If you are using around 4 kW of energy on a continuous basis – the truck could power it for about 30 hours if it’s fully charged. How useful is it for a real camping trip in the desert? Eric will show us in the coming weeks.
