Is it possible to have an electric pickup truck without range anxiety? This is why I take this all-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 4WT pickup on the Denver 100 range test. How far will it go on the ring highway route around Denver, Colorado? It surprises me with a range that is way greater than the estimated 450 miles. Take a look.

Chevy Silverado EV

The new Silverado EV is about the same size as a traditional Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab. It rides on a 145.7-inch wheelbase which is about the same as a V8-powered Silverado half-ton with a standard bed. The Silverado EV is an all-new design. The center section of the vehicle contains a massive battery pack (approximately 212 kWh of usable energy). There is an electric motor in the front and one in the back. These two motors provide eAWD capability and approximately 510 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.

The entire truck weighs as much as a Silverado HD 2500 or 3500 diesel pickup truck. The curb weight of this 4WT model is around 8,500 lbs. This Silverado EV has a payload rating of 1,422 lbs and a maximum towing rating of 10,000 lbs. It is not meant for gooseneck or 5th-wheel trailer towing.

During the Denver 100 range test, I went 128.5 miles at speeds ranging between 65 mph and 75 mph. There was major traffic due to an accident, so I had to go around it at a city-driving pace. My overall average speed for the entire trip was 55 MPH. This is a bit slower than a typical “Denver 100” mileage test. In the end, I used about 24% of the battery for this journey.

Whoa, this means that this truck could drive about 514 miles on a single charge at highway speeds (while unladen with a heavy payload and without a trailer). When I fully charged this truck, the computer estimated a total driving range of 505 miles.

Indeed, this is better than the manufacturer’s estimated 450-mile range. In my opinion, this truck has reached a point where range anxiety is no longer a problem. Charging times are still nowhere near gasoline or diesel refuel times. Also, the sticker price of this Silverado EV 4WT is $79,800.
