What’s the real difference between the all-new 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV edition and its non-AEV brother? Let’s find out by taking both on a tough and rocky Montana trail. Turns out the difference is greater than I expected.
2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV
GM and AEV (American Expedition Vehicles) collaborate once again to create the Canyon AT4X AEV edition. This version of the truck did not exist in its previous generation. The AEV edition is next level because it gets an additional suspension lift, larger tires, and the rest of the AEV treatment (boron steel skid plates, steel bumpers, and trim). The AEV truck has 1.5 inches more ground clearance. Is it really a big deal? Turns out… Yes.
GMC selected the North Middle Creek off-road trail for this drive event. They referred to it as a “medium difficulty” trail. When some other manufacturers say this, it generally means something easy. Not this time. This is a properly rocky and difficult trail to navigate. This is when skill, driving line selection, slow speed, and a capable truck are essential.
Now, we know everything other than the sticker price for the Canyon AT4X AEV edition. The standard 2023 Canyon AT4X starts at around $57,000 after destination charges. I predict the AEV edition price will be close to $64,000.
