Could it be? Will the upcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX offer up to 27 MPG combined? Yes, it can be very close to this, according to what Toyota USA says about the recently unveiled 2024 Land Cruiser that shares its powertrain. Let’s dig a little deeper.
2024 Toyota Tacoma i-FORCE MAX
The Tacoma i-FORCE MAX and the Land Cruiser will be powered by the same 2.4-liter turbocharged I4 gasoline engine that is combined with an electric motor for outstanding power ratings. Toyota says that the Tacoma i-FORCE MAX will be rated at 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
This is the same powertrain that will be available in the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser that is coming back to the United States. Toyota USA put up a website for the upcoming Land Cruiser. See the screenshot below from the Toyota website.
The website clearly says that Toyota estimates the Land Cruiser hybrid system to get a “27 combined mpg rating”. This is NOT a final EPA fuel economy rating. However, this is very impressive.
Wait… Does this mean the 2024 Tacoma hybrid will do the same? It is very likely, but a pickup truck has different aerodynamics when compared to an SUV. It may score slightly lower. How about 26 MPG?
26 MPG combined would still be by far a class-leading efficiency figure for any midsize pickup truck.
Whoa! Ford, GM, Jeep, Nissan, and Honda – the ball is in your court!
