Our 2022 Ram 1500 Classic “Stubby” 4×4 pickup truck has been in our long-term test fleet for around nine months. Now, it’s time to say goodbye to it. Our goal was to find and buy the most affordable brand-new pickup truck in the country. We are confident that we accomplished the task. We purchased it late last year for less than $40,000. We had to go to Idaho to get it. It was not easy to find this basic 4×4 model.
We put over 6,500 miles on it and put through some heavy use. We towed at its maximum trailer rating several times. We hauled a lot of payloads, drove it through snow storms, and took it off-road in Moab, Utah.
It’s been a super reliable and solid. It went through the one of the coldest Colorado winters during the last 30+ years. Winter temperatures reached -18F. The all-season tires works decent in most conditions.
This truck is equipped with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle ratio is a 3.21 to 1 – which is meant for efficiency (not towing). The truck has a very usable 1,500+ lbs of payload. However, its tow rating is just under 5,000 lbs. This is one of the main reasons why we decided to let it go before the year was up.
Another big reason to sell our Stubby truck is because we did a lot of videos with it and you guys (the audience) is a bit tired of seeing it. Now, we can put the money from the sale into other vehicle purchases and other projects.
