Is the new and refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD Duramax turbo-diesel the new king of MPG in the heavy-duty pickup truck segment? We put it on the Denver 100 mpg loop to find out.
The truck we are testing here is a 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD crew cab 4×4 LTZ model. It is very well optioned with most luxury features you expect. Under the hood is an updated 6.6L Duramax V8 with 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque and 10-speed automatic transmission. The power is sent to a 3.42-to-1 rear axle differential.
Just a little bit ago we drove an all-new 2023 Ford Super Duty F-350 dually from Detroit to Denver. This new 6.7L high-output V8 Power Stroke diesel returned 17.6 MPG when running unladen at highway speeds.
Let’s see how the new Duramax does on our 111-mile MPG loop!
Spoiler Alert: This new Chevrolet dually returned an impressive 17.7 MPG. At this point, the Duramax dually is the leader in efficiency, if only by a minor 0.1 MPG.
