GM officially introduces the first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison. Off-road capability and toughness are getting more popular in the world of heavy-duty pickup trucks, and General Motors looks to capitalize on this with the latest HD ZR2 lineup of trucks. These will directly compete against the Ford Super Duty Tremor and the Ram Power Wagon/Ram HD Rebel trucks. Here are all the specifications.

These ZR2 trucks are based on the Silverado HD 2500 crew cab 4×4 platform. The ZR2 trim is not available on the HD 3500 platform. The HD ZR2 gets a 1.5-inch suspension lift that helps to fit 35-inch all-terrain Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires from the factory. Chevrolet had to go with 35s in order to directly compete against the Ford Super Duty Tremor trucks that also roll on 35s.

The HD ZR2 trucks can be had with either a gasoline V8 or a turbo-diesel V8.

The HD ZR2 trucks ride on their own version of the DSSV spool-valve off-road dampers by Multimatic. GM started working with Multimatic on off-road shocks with the introduction of the last generation of the Chevy Colorado ZR2. The following family of GM off-road pickup trucks uses the DSSV Spoolvalve shocks: the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2, Silverado ZR2, GMC Canyon AT4X, and the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X. GMC says that the GMC Sierra HD AT4X trucks are also coming, but the heavy-duty AT4X has not made its official debut yet.

Off-road capability upgrades are rounded out by a selectable e-Locker rear differential and skid plates. If you are looking for even more capability, then the HD ZR2 Bison is worth a look. GM is working with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to add more off-road protection with stamped steel front and rear bumpers, and a full skid plate package. The HD Bison’s skid plates are made out of a more common stamped steel, not Boron steel hot-stamped material.

The HD Bison’s front bumper is ready to accept a winch. The Bison version has unique AEV wheels and AEV logos on the seats. The 2024 ZR2 and ZR2 Bison trucks benefit from the redesigned 2024 Silverado HD interior design and technology. This includes the large 13.4-inch center infotainment screen, a large heads-up display, and many more interior upgrades.

The 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison prices are not available yet. These trucks will go on sale in Q3 of 2023. These trucks will be built at the GM Flint Michigan plant.

Just for reference, a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 carries approximately a $9,000 premium over a comparable Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss. The ZR2 Bison package costs an additional $7,895 on top of the ZR2 price.
