The awaited new 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison makes its official debut. Here are all the specifications and the starting price for the all-new Bison off-road truck. This is not the only news that Chevrolet is dropping on us today. They also have the new power specs for the 2nd-generation 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel I6 engine that will go into many 2023 Silverado pickup trucks.
2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison
The latest Bison features American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) front and rear bumpers, a boron-steel skid plate package, wheels, and interior appointments. The Bison follows the off-road truck formula the previous Colorado ZR2 Bison introduced. Take an off-road capable pickup and give it extra obstacle protection, so it can go even further off-road. This is very similar to what GM is doing with the new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition.
The Silverado ZR2 Bison boasts:
- 32.8-deg approach angle
- 23.4-deg departure angle
- 11.2 inches of ground clearance
- same 33-inch AT tires as a standard ZR2
- Multimatic DSSV spool-valve shocks
Under the hood of the new Bison is the same 6.2L gas V8 that is found in other Silverado 1500 pickups. It is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The starting price for the 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison is $78,490. This is nearly the same starting price as a 2022 Ram TRX ($80,585) or a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor ($77,570).
New 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel
We now know the specifications for the updated (second-generation) LZ0 3.0-liter Duramax engine that’s going into the 2023 Silverado lineup. GM estimates the new rating at 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. This is up from 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque from the previous engine.
GM says the new power 3.0L I6 rating is thanks to:
- New steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl
- Retuned turbo compressor
- New fuel injectors
- Improved temperature control features
Chevrolet says that the new engine will be available in Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. This includes most of the lineup with the exclusion of the Silverado WT work truck and the Silverado Custom trim.
We will have to wait a bit longer for the new fuel efficiency ratings and pricing. Chevy says the new diesel will be available in 2023 trucks starting at the end of 2022.
