Mopar.com publishes a supplement owner’s manual for the 2022 Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer with a 3.0L Engine. This is an official confirmation that the new full-size Jeep SUVs are getting the all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbo I6 “Hurricane” powerplant. The owner’s manual also lists the towing ratings for all 2WD and 4×4 versions of the SUV. Here are all the details we have so far.

Also, big thanks to TFLtruck.com viewer – Steve S. – for sending us the link to this new information.

The upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer get the new turbocharged gasoline straight-six engine, and it appears to be the high-output (H.O.) version of the engine that Stellantis officially unveiled last week. We come to this conclusion because the owner’s manual says that the engine requires premium fuel (a minimum of 91-octane). According to Stellantis – the H.O. version of the Hurricane requires premium fuel. They also say that this engine will be capable of at least 500 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Wagoneer owner’s manual supplement does not list power output specs.

The current Grand Wagoneer that is equipped with a 471 horsepower 6.4L V8 engine (that also requires 91-octane fuel) is currently rated at a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. The new 3-liter promises to have more horsepower, but what about towing? The owner’s manual says the following. Check out the automated turbocharger “cool down” feature.

Yep, the new engine is also capable of towing up to 10,000 lbs – which is still the highest rating in the full-size truck-based SUV class. Notice the wide difference between the standard towing capacity of 5,630 lbs for a 4×4 and 9,840 lbs for the “4×4 Max Tow” package. If you want to tow heavy, you need to make sure you are buying the correct optional package. We will learn more about this later.

Here are some of the other key pieces of information.

The current 6.4L V8 is a glorious engine for towing heavy trailers or simply driving around. We did a full test with an 8,100 lbs trailer and compared a Grand Wagoneer with the big V8 to a Ram 1500 with a 5.7L V8. The Grand Wagoneer is a very confident towing machine. Check out the video below. We will have to wait to test these with the new 3.0L TT Hurricane I6 engine.
