Here Is How the GMC Hummer EV Compares to the Rivian on Efficiency

A recent report shows an EPA filing for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1. In this report, we learn how heavy the all-new Hummer truck is, how big and heavy its battery is, and its city/highway efficiency ratings. Here are all the numbers and how it compares to Rivian R1T and Tesla Model X.

Back in May 2021, we reported that the GMC Hummer EV truck will have a curb weight of over 9,000 lbs. This is now confirmed in this EPA data filing. The curb weight is confirmed at 9,063 lbs. The new Hummer’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is listed at 10,550 lbs.

The document lists the truck’s power output at 983 horsepower (previously estimated at 1,000 hp). The vehicle’s “test weight” is listed at 10,000 lbs – which means that the Hummer EV was tested for efficiency with up to 939 lbs of payload onboard.

Here is how the GMC Hummer EV efficiency estimates compare to some other battery-electric vehicles.

The document also lists the total weight, volume, and energy capacity of the high-voltage battery. The fully-optioned Hummer Truck Edition 1 is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that weighs 2,923 lbs. It has a specific energy of 158 kW/kg. If you do the calculation – the total battery capacity comes out to be 209.5 kWh. Since GMC never officially stated the battery capacity, it was estimated at 200 kWh. It would make sense if the usable capacity is 200 kWh and the total capacity is 209.5 kWh.

The total volume of the battery is 1,012.5 liters or 35.75 cu-ft. For comparison, a full-size household refrigerator takes up approximately the same amount of space.
