Should Toyota build and sell an extreme off-road-worthy Tundra pickup truck that is a Raptor-fighter? We think so. New information says that Toyota is working on a production version of the Tundra Desert Chase truck that was shown at the 2021 SEMA show. This report comes to us from The Drive.

The all-new Tundra TRD Pro is coming to the market soon – in Spring 2022. The Tundra TRD Pro is riding on 33-inch tires and FOX 2.5 shocks. Toyota will offer a dealer-installed 2.6-inch TRD suspension lift that can support 35-inch tires. The TRD lift kit is coming this summer.

How about a Toyota Tundra on 37s with a wide-body kit and gobs of suspension travel? Yes, we think there is definitely room in the market for such a truck. Toyota says that it wants the TRD Pro to be a bit of an exclusive and premium truck in their lineup. Is there room for something even more expensive and rare?

Toyota has the off-road racing experience and the engineering know-how to make it happen. There has to be a business case for it. The trend is towards more capable and outrageous off-road trucks. Ford is selling an F-150 Raptor on 27s. Chevrolet is getting ready to sell the Silverado ZR2. The Ram TRX’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

Toyota can produce the suspension and the body kit. The main question is – what may power such a pickup truck? Will it be a 3.5L twin-turbo hybrid system? Is Toyota cooking up something even more special? We will have to wait and see.
