The new Ford Ranger reveal is right around the corner.
You may not know it based on how briefly the current truck has been in the U.S., but it’s been a full decade since the T6 generation went into production for global markets. It’s time for the upcoming model to make its appearance, and now we know exactly when that will be. Ford released another teaser video, setting the stage for the truck’s global reveal on November 24. When it does hit the scene, the new Ford Ranger will go on sale in 180 countries, and that includes the United States.
The video doesn’t actually show much in terms of the finished product — just a silhouette. Nonetheless, those C-shaped running lamps are clear as day, and the general styling from months and months of spy shots appears to be intact. That is to say, the new Ford Ranger will get a more muscular appearance, along with front end styling and a hood to mirror its larger F-150 sibling. Unlike the F-150, though, this truck needs to carry design sensibilities and capabilities for markets outside North America, as well as within.
To that end, we suspect the new Ford Ranger will launch with a turbodiesel option in global markets, as has been the case for the two decades since the Blue Oval launched an international version of its compact (and later midsize) truck. It’s seriously doubtful we’ll get that, and Ford’s most likely move on the powertrain front will be the same 2.3-liter turbocharged four-pot we have now, perhaps with a few tweaks. Word has it the new truck will ride on an updated version of the platform that also underpins the new Bronco, since they’re both already built in the same plant here in the U.S.
That’s nice, but what about the one we didn’t get last time around?
What the million dollar question really is this time around, however, is whether we’ll get a new Ranger Raptor. Ford omitted the T6 Raptor from our market, and from what we’ve seen they will bring it here too. If that’s the case, then we may well see Ford’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, boosting the truck to the front of the horsepower pack with 330 horsepower, not to mention over 400 lb-ft of torque. Again, it’s not official, but frankly…it would be crazy if Ford left us out of the mix on a Ranger Raptor again.
Depending on how the new Ford Ranger debut plays out, we may see the truck’s North American appearance sometime in the next few months. Ford Australia is running point on this one, though we may have to wait a bit to see how it will inevitably adapt for the U.S. market before its launch — most likely as a 2023 model.
