In this new series, we buy three vehicles “For a Few Bucks Less” to see if it’s possible to get a used 4×4 in decent shape for $2,500 or less. Turns out it’s way more difficult than we realized. In episode 1, Nathan, Tommy, and I find out what the other guys bought. We show off our mighty $2,500 machines and do a friendly drag race. Let’s see who wins.
Tommy purchases a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) that has a 4.7L PowerTech V8 under the hood and a questionable 4-speed automatic. It has a working 4WD system, not working air conditioning, but many other luxurious options as well.
Nathan purchases a 1996 Chevy Blazer that is powered by a 4.3L Vortec V6 and a 4-speed automatic. It has a questionable AC and 4WD system. It also seems to leek in many places.
I am able to get a 1994 Mazda B4000 pickup truck (which also happens to be a Ford Ranger underneath). It’s powered by a 4.0L V6 that is mated to a wonderful 5-speed manual transmission. It does not have AC. It’s not absolutely clear if the 4WD works. It has a few other mechanical and cosmetic problems.
Join the video below to find out exactly what we paid for these beauties and which one of them wins a drag race.
