Critical component shortages continue to shut down factories in the U.S. and other countries. All manufacturers are struggling with this problem, but the Ford Ranger had an especially difficult August 2021. Here are the numbers.

The Ford sales data comes directly from a Ford sales report. The Toyota truck numbers are provided by the Good Car Bad Car website since Toyota does not make this information easily available. The Honda and Hyundai sales numbers are reported directly by the respective companies. Many other companies on this list report sales on a quarterly (not monthly) basis.

The Ford F-series sales seem to be stabilizing a bit in August 2021, although at a lower level than last year. Toyota Tundra sales are going down hard, but this is not a big surprise as Toyota is also switching over to a whole new generation of the Tundra for the 2022 model year.

Under normal circumstances, the Toyota Tacoma sales are immune to any declines. This is not the case in August 2021. As you can see, the Tacoma sales are down -4.5% compared to the same time period last year. Nonetheless, Toyota sold nearly 20,000 Tacomas last month.

The Ford Ranger had an especially bad month. Sales were down -67.7% compared to last year. Plant shutdowns due to component shortages and high demand for the Ford Bronco that is built at the same plant in Wayne, Michigan are some of the factors.

As a side note, Ford reports that the company sold 2,730 Broncos last month.
