The Michigan State Police finds that the new 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder truck is the quickest accelerating police vehicle they have ever tested. What?! Yes, it accelerates to 60 MPH and/or 100 MPH quicker than other police cars and SUVs that have been tested over the years. Here are the results according to the Michigan State Police and Ford.
The new 2021 F-150 police truck is equipped with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The truck tested (as you see in the image above) is a crew cab 4×4 in basic police trim. This setup is rated at 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
Michigan State Police test results:
- 0-60 MPH in 5.4 seconds (about 1.2 seconds quicker than previous generation of the F-150)
- 0-100 MPH in 13.1 seconds
- 120 MPH top speed is confirmed
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department test results:
- 1/4-mile in 14.4 seconds
Ford says:
“The torque-on-demand transfer case also plays a role in the truck’s overall performance, since it facilitates carrying faster speeds when cornering. This was showcased during 32-lap vehicle dynamics tests run by both the Michigan State Police and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. The 2021 F-150 Police Responder showed dramatic improvements over the original, cutting 5.8 seconds off its average lap time during the Michigan tests, and 3.6 seconds per lap during the Los Angeles tests. (Los Angeles testing protocols add 400 lbs of payload to police trucks and SUVs to simulate cargo). Laps in the dynamic tests are run on winding, curving tracks, as well as a tight city course, to simulate real-world pursuit driving conditions.“
