Ford announces their 2021 February sales and how it compares to the previous year. Sales of Ford’s most important truck nameplates are slightly down to where they were last year before the pandemic. Here is how all the numbers break down.
Ford’s most popular vehicle – the Ford F-Series sold a total of 64,478 trucks (which is -1.4% lower than the F-Series trucks sold in February 2020). Ford says that sales of the new 2021 F-150 are picking up, especially the sales of the new F-150 Hybrid. The company says that they sold 40% more PowerBoost Hybrid trucks in February 2021 than a month ago in January. Ford does not separate Super Duty sales from the F-150 numbers – so we do not know exactly how the Super Duty truck sales are doing by themselves. There is a common question on the next Super Duty refresh or redesign with new interior or other features. We currently do not have any official information about this. As soon as we do – you will find it here at TFLtruck.com.
The Ford Ranger sold 6,954 trucks in February 2021 (which is -3.6% lower than a year ago). Ford has just started production of the new 2021 Ranger Tremor off-road truck last month. As the production ramps up, we should see some sales increases due to the new off-road focused model.
Switching gears to Ford’s full-size Expedition SUV. The large people & stuff hauler sold 7,228 SUVs in February 2021 (which is -10.1% lower than last February). We know that Ford is working on a mid-cycle Expedition refresh based on all of the prototype vehicles that are testing in public. We anticipate a refreshed Expedition to come to market as a 2022 model, but we do not know any official specifications or release timing on this yet.
The Ford Transit van sales saw a significant decrease in February 2021. Ford sold 9,189 Transit vans last month (which is -27.2% lower than February 2020). Ford is planning to start selling the 2022 eTransit all-electric van before the end of this year. It will be interesting to see how well the new all-electric van will be received by the market.
Finally, the Ford E-series, Ford Transit Connect, and the Ford F-650/F-750 trucks had a very successful sales month. The E-Series sold 3,956 cutaway chassis vans (+4.4% over last year). The Transit Connect van sold 2,524 vans (+6.3% over last year). The F-650 and F-750 heavy trucks sold 1,686 trucks (+142.9% over last year). Sales of these commercial vehicles are largely dependent on large fleet orders, so it’s often difficult to pinpoint what contributes to some of these numbers.
