I have a chance to do a thorough walk-around of this 2021 Ford F-150 XL Super Cab (aka. extended cab) 4×4 with a popular STX package. This is made possible by our friends at Brighton Ford Colorado. I initially expected this to be a very affordable and simple truck, but I was a little surprised by the sticker price when I saw it. Here are all the details.

Indeed, this new 2021 F-150 costs around half of what the new F-150 Limited crew cab costs. This is good news. I only had about an hour with this truck, but I was immediately able to tell that this XL STX truck is a very comfortable and quiet-riding truck that is pretty quick.

This F-150 XL is motivated by Ford’s 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 that remains mostly unchanged from the previous generation of the truck. The power rating is still 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Given that this truck weighs around 4,800 lbs (which is relatively light for a 4×4 full-size truck) – this engine provides great acceleration.

The 2021 F-150 interior is fully redesigned. This XL STX is equipped with cloth seats and about the same passenger volume as in the 2020 F-150 Super Cabs. This base model comes with an 8-inch center touch-screen and a small digital screen in the gauge cluster. The design is simple, very functional, and includes the latest technology you expect. Wi-Fi connectivity, USB and 12V charger ports, lane departure warning, driving modes, 4Hi/4Lo, four power windows, power locks, and much more.

This truck is equipped with a 3.55 rear-axle-ratio and a hitch with trailer connection wiring (but no trailer brake controller). This setup is rated to tow a maximum of 7,600 lbs. If you need to tow more with a 2.7-liter V6 engine, then you can equip it with a 3.73 rear axle for up to 10,000 lbs of maximum towing capability. The truck you see here has nearly 1,700 lbs of payload capability.

The final MSRP before discount is $45,050. The sticker shows $2,095 of discounts. This includes a discount for the optional 20-inch wheels, XL and STX packages. The final sticker price is $42,955 – although the dealership may include additional deals.

These new trucks are getting more comfortable, quicker, more capable, and more advanced. What do you think about the price and the features this truck offers?
