Will the next Ford Raptor use an optional high-performance 6.8L engine? Wait, what! What is this mysterious 6.8L engine? The news about this new engine stems from a Unifor union meeting on Sep 23, 2020. This is a Canadian union that represents the workers at the Windsor Engine Plant. This is the factory that currently produces the 7.3L “Godzilla” V8 engine for the Super Duty trucks, vans, motorhomes, and large commercial vehicles.

Jerry Dias, the president of Unifor, mentioned a new “6.8-liter engine” in his formal remarks as it relates to the Windsor Engine Plant. Little other information is known, but here is another Unifor statement related to the new engine. Several other sources claim that this new “6.X L” engine is slated for the upcoming Ford Mustang and Ford F-150 variants.

Will this come to fruition? We have no official statement about it from Ford. Many sources suggested that the next F-150 Raptor will use a version of a 7.3L V8, or a supercharged 5.2L V8 similar to the Mustang GT500. At this point, this is just a guessing game.

All we know is that the new 2021 Ram TRX has a 702 horsepower 6.2L supercharged gas V8, and Ford is likely working on something to answer it.
