The 2021 GMC Sierra truck lineup gets several new features to improve driving safety, to help the trailering experience, increase off-road capability, and lower the price. Here are all the details.
2021 GMC Sierra
First up is the Trailer Length Indicator that shows the driver a “Red Zone” as a blind-spot monitoring system when towing a trailer. The Red Zone shows where the trailer will be once the lane change is completed – thus helping the drive to judge whether the other lane is clear or not. The side camera image and the Red Zone are shown on the center infotainment screen.
Use the link below to see the video and images of these features in action. We will have to reserve the final judgement until we can test these new features ourselves.
Next up is the Jack-knife Alert. This is exactly what it sounds like. If the trailer starts to get too close to the rear bumper of the truck during a tight turn, a warning message and red triangle will appear on the center infotainment screen.
Rear Trailer View & Trailer Angle Indicator is another helpful feature that can offer the driver a better idea about how the truck and trailer are positioned in relation to each other.
The new 2021 GMC is not equipped with a trailer backup assist feature that steers the truck and trailer while using a knob controller. Ford F-series is offering this feature and Ram is introducing the backup assist feature on the 2021 Ram 1500 trucks.
Cargo Bed View now has a zoom in/out feature to help while hooking up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer. Rear Sideview is now available while driving forwards and backwards.
The MultiPro tailgate is now also available on Sierra SLE and Elevation trim levels, so more affordable Sierra trucks can have the fancy tailgate if you want.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 trucks can be had with 20-inch wheels and a Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires. This is a setup that is very similar to the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Realtree Edition.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0-liter I6 Duramax engine option is now $1,500 more affordable. If you are looking a 5.3-liter DFM gas V8-equipped truck – the 3.0L turbo-diesel costs an additional $995.
As you see in the featured image, there is also a 2021 GMC Sierra HD Denali Black Diamond edition. It’s a premium truck with a dark appearance and new 20-inch gloss wheels and power retractable side steps.
