The new 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor is officially here! TFLtruck was first to have an unconfirmed report about this new Ranger off-road truck. Now, we get all of the details and more.

2021 Ford Ranger Tremor

The Ranger Tremor will be the most off-road worthy midsize truck in Ford’s lineup when it goes on sale in early 2021. The package builds upon the existing Ranger FX4 and includes the following:

  • Suspension lift with unique springs and FOX 2.0 shocks
  • Wheels and 32-inch Continental General Grabber ATX tires.
  • Fender flares
  • Tremor seats
  • Six auxiliary switches
  • Side steps
  • Optional exterior graphics

The Tremor package will be offered on Ranger XLT and Lariat trim levels in crew cab configuration only.

Suspension

The Tremor suspension offers approximately 0.8-inch lift with unique springs and FOX 2.0 shocks. The rear shocks are equipped with a remore piggy-back reservoir. Total ground clearance now stands at 9.7 inches. The maximum payload stands at 1,430 lbs. This is near the top of the segment for any midsize 4×4 pickup truck. The maximum Tremor towing capacity remains at 7,500 lbs.

The Ranger FX4 front bumper and skid plates are still there. The Tremor has the following specs: 30.9 deg approach angle (up 2.2 deg), a 25.5 deg departure angle (up 0.1 deg), and a 24.2 deg breakover angle (up 2.7 deg).

Wheels & Tires

The Raptor-style wheels are wrapped in Continental General Grabber ATX tires with 32-inch diameter. This is a very similar tire size and configuration as will also be available on the new 2021 Ford Bronco. The Ranger and Bronco are built in the same factory in Wayne, MI.

This wheel and tire combination make the truck about 1-inch wider overall. This is why the Ranger Tremor also has unique fender flares.

Power

The Tremor powertrain remains the same as in the standard truck. It’s the 2.3-liter turbocharged I4 with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission is the only option. If you seek more power, Ford Performance catalog does offer an engine tune. The tune requires 91-octane premium fuel and adds 45 hp and 60 lb-ft of torque. The power gain is given when using 93-octane.

Interior

The Tremor interior features unique seats and six auxiliary switch that are mounted high on the center dash. The switches can handle 25, 15, 10, or 5 amps. Ford says this is an easier way to add LED lights, air compressor, or winch. However, the Tremor front bumper does not offer a provision for mounting a winch.

Technology & Price

The Ranger Tremor will offer all of the driving modes and slow-speed off-road cruise control (Trail Control) as are also available on the Ranger FX4. The Tremor package is listed at $4,290. The Ranger FX4 package is currently listed at $1,295. Since you can add the Tremor off-road package to the Ranger XLT or Lariat, the total pricing will vary. Ford says that a Ranger XLT Tremor will have a listed price of around $40,000. The Ranger Lariat Tremor will start closer to $45,000. Of course, you can still add options to either and see the price climb.

Competition

Ford is targeting the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Chevy Colorado ZR2, and Jeep Gladiator Rubicon/Mojave with this Tremor truck. Here is how the competitive pricing stacks up.

  • Tacoma TRD Pro: $44,075 w/ man, $46,780 w/ auto.
  • Chevy Colorado ZR2: $44,395 w/ gas V6, $47,895 w/ diesel.
  • Jeep Gladiator Rubicon/Mojave: $44,120 w/ man, $46,120 w/ auto, $50,120 w/ diesel.
