GMC HUMMER EV – It’s coming soon.

Our world is about to be flipped on its head. GM is bringing back the HUMMER brand. It’s going to be a GMC HUMMER EV. General Motors reveals these specification. The HUMMER electric will have 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. They did not say if this will be based on two, three, or four electric motors.

GMC also says the HUMMER EV will be capable of a 0-60 MPH acceleration of 3.0 seconds.

The HUMMER EV will be built in Michigan. The HUMMER EV will be fully revealed on May 20, 2020. GMC says it will go on sale in the Fall 2021.

Hummer H1

The Hummer H1 was originally an AM General military vehicle that was also available for civilian sale between 1992 and 2006. It had several different engines, including a turbo-diesel Duramax V8 engine in the later Alpha models. This military-based 4×4 was very pricey and they sold under 12,000 trucks over the 14 year run.

Hummer H2

The H2 was launched in 2003, and it was more affordable and more comfortable than the H1. The H2 was still big and bold with square styling and giant gas V8 engine options. It started out with a 6.0-liter gas V8 engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. This heavy SUV was definitely a gas guzzler. Later H2 models were powered by a higher output 6.2-liter gas V8 mated to a 6-speed automatic.

The H2 had the spirit of the original H1, but it more closely related to a Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Tahoe, and Chevy HD trucks than a purpose-built military transport.

The H2 was sold between 2003 – 2009 model years, and it was very successful. Hummer sold over 153,000 H2s over those years. There was also a H2 SUT pickup truck variant.

Hummer H3

Then came the smaller H3 SUV and a H3T pickup variant. The H3 was launched in 2006. It was based on the Chevy Colorado midsize truck chassis. It was powered by either inline-5 or V8 engines. It came with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The H3 lineup was produced between 2006 and 2010 model year. The H3 was very successful with over 159,000 trucks sold over the five year period.

In early 2009, there was a Hummer H3 plug-in hybrid concept vehicle shown. It never went into production. The Hummer brand went away after 2009. It was no more after the GM bankruptcy.
