The updated and refreshed 2020 Ford Transit is finally here. The online configurator is live, and it has all the details about AWD availability and pricing. The base new cargo van starts at $34,510, but if you want maximum capability – a fully optioned dually passenger van with AWD can push the price to $55,000.
2020 Ford Transit
The new 2020 Transit launches with two gas engines. They are a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter gas V6 and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The new 2.0-liter turbo-diesel I4 option is a delayed introduction, according to a Ford order guide. All three engine options are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
- 3.5-liter PFDi gas V6 is rated at 271 hp & 260 lb-ft of torque.
- 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is rated at 306 hp & 400 lb-ft of torque.
- 2.0-liter bi-turbo I4 diesel is at 210 hp @ 3,750 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque @ 1,750 rpm.
A full-size van like the Transit has a mind-boggling number of various configurations – way more than for a pickup truck.
It all starts with a commercial-grade cargo van with a low roof and regular length. This base cargo van starts at $34,510.
A 2020 Transit crew van is available with two rows of seats and a cargo area behind it. The crew van is a $2,210 addition for a starting price of $36,729.
The passenger XL trim level Transit start at $5,670 or the base cargo van, or a starting price of $40,180.
If the base 3.5-liter V6 is not enough power, the the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 adds $2,350 to the price. (Turbo-diesel pricing is not yet available.)
Ford calls the new 4×4 system – intelligent AWD. Ford says the system can automatically shift power front to back, depending on traction conditions. The system shares many of its components with that on the 2020 Ford Explorer.
The AWD system adds between $4,695 – $5,480 to the price of a 2020 Transit, but it is available with either gas V6 engine and nearly every size and trim configuration.
The most affordable 4×4 Transit cargo van has a price of $39,205.
If a low roof is simply too low, then a medium roof height adds $1,150 to the price. If that is still not enough, then a high roof is also offered.
However, the high roof Transit is available in the long and extended body lengths. If you choose a cargo van with a high roof and a long body style, then it adds $5,525 to a price of a base cargo van.
The updated 2020 Transit comes with a new interior and available driver assistance and convenience technologies. Currently, the most luxurious and optioned 2020 Transit is an XLT passenger van.
If you want a fully loaded Transit 4×4 dually passenger XLT van with a 10,360 lbs GVWR, then the starting price is $54,340. Once you add special exterior paint, towing package, leather seats for 12 passengers, navigation system, tinted windows, power running boards, and more – the final MSRP can get to $64,210.
