Spied! Single Cab Ford F-150 Raptor Caught Testing…Or Is It A Bronco Mule?

It looks remarkably production ready, and where's the camouflage?

It looks like an F-150 Raptor, but…

New photos of what looks like a Ford F-150 Raptor have emerged. Really, this one had us a bit puzzled, as it raised more questions than it answered. The most obvious point change with this truck is that it looks Ford could soon introduce a Regular Cab variant of the Raptor. However, there are some out there who speculate there could be a full-size Bronco’s underpinnings lurking underneath the Raptor body.

So which one is it? There are feasible arguments on both sides, either Raptor or Bronco. Ford currently offers the F-150 Raptor in either SuperCab (extended cab) or SuperCrew (crew cab) models. A Regular Cab option is only available on the fleet-focused XL base truck and the XLT. Conversions are available to turn a Raptor into a shorter, two-door truck, but there’s nothing like that out of the factory at this point.

That said, this truck looks nearly production-ready as it sits. The front and rear bumpers are not to production specs, naturally, but everything else looks 100 percent Raptor. Interestingly, this truck has first-generation F-150 SVT Raptor wheels on it, but that is one of the few significant changes.

Perhaps Ford is eyeing wildly popular single cab truck concepts like the Jeep Gladiator J6 shown at Easter Jeep Safari. However, it’s tough to gauge whether there is actually enough demand for Ford to push the envelope on a single cab F-150 Raptor, even if that is only slightly different from the other versions.

A Bronco mule in disguise? (It’s possible)

There’s another curious thing going on here. This truck is wearing absolutely no camouflage. That got us, and some others, to thinking that it may not matter what body we’re looking at here. Yes, it may look like an F-150 Raptor, but what if something else is going on under the skin? Like the chassis and powertrain of a new Bronco, for instance?

Considering we know a two-door Bronco is coming, it would make sense for Ford to test a short wheelbase prototype. However, there are a few holes in that argument, we admit. If it’s just a test mule, why make it look like a Raptor, rather than an ordinary F-150? Plus other prototypes we’ve seen testing on the public streets have been on the Ranger’s platform, not the F-150’s.

Anything is possible, but at this point we’re averse to saying it’s a Bronco test mule. Some have speculated that with some fan fare, but this does look more like a Regular Cab F-150 Raptor.
