You will be able to order a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 relatively soon, and there are several updates and changes coming to this half-ton truck. Let’s set aside the 3.0-liter diesel I6, the CarbonPro bed, the new towing mirrors, and the rest.
2020 GMC Sierra 1500
Perhaps, the most interesting and mysterious change is that the 5.3-liter DFM V8 will not be available with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new 5.3L V8 / 10-speed combo will be standard on Denali and AT4 models. It will also be optional on all Sierra 1500 SLE trim level trucks and above, but only on 4×4 models.
Why not offer the 10-speed automatic on all V8 trucks across the board? We will let you know when we get clarification on this from GM. The other mysterious element of this news is – we don’t know if the new 10-speed automatic will significantly increase the Sierra’s fuel economy.
So far, we really like the way the 10-speed pairs to the 6.2-liter V8 GM trucks. Making this transmission more available is a good thing. Naturally, it will bring additional cost with it, but we do not know exactly what the 2020 truck pricing will be yet.
Towing Tech & Accessories
The new 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks will also offer a new towing mirror option. GMC has not provided any official images of the light duty trucks with the new towing mirror.
The 2020 half-tons will also get the optional “transparent trailer” camera view option.
There is addition towing app integration that includes iN-Command Control System that helps with camper/RV trailer feature integration. It allows the truck occupant to control and monitor certain RV trailer features and status remotely by using the myGMC mobile app.
The other piece of news is the upcoming 3.0-liter diesel I6 trucks will also be available with the CarbonPro bed option.
We know that the 3.0-liter will produce 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, but we still do not know what the EPA fuel economy estimates are for the light-duty turbo-diesel.
