The 2019 International CV Series medium duty 4500 & 5500 trucks make their official debut this week. We knew that Chevrolet and Navistar collaborated on the next generation of medium duty heavy-hauling trucks, but this is the first official look at the International version.
International CV & Chevy Silverado HD
Much of the truck is the same as the 2019 Chevy Silverado HD 4500 & 5500, but the grille is one obvious difference. This is GM’s replacement for the Chevy Kodiak of year ago.
These class 4 & 5 trucks are mostly about hauling heavy payloads. They have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) between 16,000 – 22,900 lbs. The trucks are available in single or crew cab configurations with 2WD or gear-driven 4×4 systems. The wheelbase ranges between 141 and 243 inches.
Under the forward tilting hood is GM-source 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with a rating of 700 lb-ft of torque. This engine is related to the L5P in the GM 3/4-ton & 1-ton trucks, but it’s rated differently in the medium duty commercial trucks.
The other big deal is a more comfortable passenger cabin and interior that these big trucks share with the current 2019 Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. These trucks can be configured with an 8-inch center infotainment screen and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We will be driving the 2019 Chevy Silverado HD 4500 / 5500 next week, so please stay tuned for a lot more about these big trucks.
