
The 2018 Tundra is getting another opportunity to tackle the Gold Mine Hill trail in the Colorado Rockies. There is a light dusting of snow, instead of the deep snow we had when we brought a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro up the mountain. This time it’s the luxurious 1794 Edition with a TRD Off-Road package.
Gold Mine Hill is our moderate off-road trail we use during the winter, because the more difficult Cliffhanger 2.0 trail at a higher elevation is completely snowed in. Gold Mine Hill has three stages: first, a steep rocky section that is usually icy and snowy in the winter. Second is an off-camber 90-degree turn further up the trail. Finally, stage 3 is a narrow and steep articulation section that requires great approach/breakover/departure angles and ample ground clearance.
The Tundra TRD Off-Road has many of the elements of a good 4×4 off-road truck. It’s wearing Michelin all-terrain tires with a mud+snow rating. Check out how it did in the video below.
