Bollinger B1 – Sport Utility EV 4×4 Truck

Bollinger Motors unveils the fully-functional B1 sport utility truck in New York City. Think of it as a highly capable 4×4 off-road vehicle that is very powerful, quick, and can haul a lot of weight. Oh yea, it’s a fully electric and battery powered utility vehicle with classic off-roader looks.

(Note: all specifications are according to Bollinger Motors and have not been verified.)

The backbone of the B1 is an all-aluminum chassis with a 105-inch wheelbase. The B1 is shorter in length but is wider than a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (four-door).

The chassis itself weighs just 295 lbs. It packs dual electric motors (front and rear) for all-wheel-drive ability. The power combines for a very impressive total of 360 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. Bollinger claims a 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph.

The chassis can hold either 60 kWh or 100 kWh worth of lithium-ion batteries. This allows approximately 120 to 200 miles of electric range respectively. Bollinger estimates the “fuel” efficiency at 67.4 MPGe (MPG equivalent).

The four-person passenger compartment is protected with what Bollinger calls “safety cage” made out of steel. Once the terrain gets rough, the B1 can take it on with an impressive 15.5 inches of ground clearance. The truck has a 56 degree approach angle, 53 degree departure, and a 33 degree breakover angles that will embarrass nearly every other production 4×4.

What if you could build a sport utility truck of your dreams? For Robert Bollinger the dream just got a lot closer with the world debut of a fully functional prototype.

Bollinger Motors is working to bring the B1 to production within the next 19 months. This points to an early 2019 calendar on-sale launch date. We will have to wait and see how this develops.
