Nearly everything has changed with the introduction of the second generation 2017 Ford Raptor. For starters, Ford no longer has the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) that builds the Raptor. The division responsible for high performance vehicles at Ford is now a global organization and it’s simply called Ford Performance.
Here is a question, do go for a clean used first generation SVT Raptor that has a V8, or do you go for a new 2017 Ford Performance Raptor with a twin-turbo V6 that is lighter, more powerful, faster, and more technologically advanced?
Roman Mica explorers this very question on this episode of TFLtruck.
On the left is our long-term 2014 Ford Raptor Super Crew. It’s approaching the 50,000 mile mark, and it has not have any significant breakdowns. The 6.2L V8 (411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque) is running great and the 6-speed automatic is shifting smooth.
On the right is a brand-new 2017 Ford Raptor Super Cab. It has nearly every option and an MSRP right around $63,000. The high-output 3.5L EcoBoost V6 produces 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and the shift from the new 10-speed automatic are nearly imperceptible.
The new truck is much faster than the old, as we found out in a recent drag race.
