Ford officially unveiled the second generation of the 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine on May 3rd, 2016. It will power the 2017 Ford F-150 that will go on sale later in 2016. At the press conference, the company listed the power output of the new engine at 365 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. In other words, the engine is completely redesigned, it keeps the same displacement of 3.5 liters, maintains the same horsepower rating, and receives 30 lb-ft of torque more than the outgoing EcoBoost V6. TFLtruck source with insider information tells us that Ford is happy to receive Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) verification that the 2017 EcoBoost V6 will produce “significantly more” than 365 hp and 450 lb-ft. We were able to verify this with a Ford representative, but only to say that the final power rating for this engine will be higher than originally announced.

The power rating for the 2017 F-150 should be officially announced next week (the week of July 11th, 2016).

The 2017 Ford Raptor will be using a performance version of this new 3.5L EcoBoost V6. This is could be very good news for the Raptor as well. Ford is targeting Raptor’s output in the neighborhood of 450 hp, but could it be higher?

You can get all the details on the new EcoBoost in this video, from the guy in charge of the V6 EcoBoost engine development at Ford – Jim Mazuchowski.
