The pickup truck wars could not get much hotter, or could they? GM is working to update their heavy duty and light duty pickups and continue to bring their A-game. Very few official details have been released on the upcoming 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500. However, there are several potential changes that GM and Chevrolet may be working on.

Notice that only the front clip of the prototype is camouflaged (actually the tail-lights are also hidden). It’s clear that better fuel economy is the name of the game, and there are rumors that the updated Silverado/Sierra 1500 pickups will use aluminum for the front fenders as well as the hood. Naturally, the styling will also be updated.

GM will also go to work on the drive-train updates. Potential changes include: propagation of the 8-speed automatic transmission across all engine offerings, and introduction of the 10-speed automatic that is being co-developed with Ford.

There is no indication whether GM will add or remove any engine options. Introduction of a small turbo-diesel or another engine option is speculation at this time.
