If Nigel Tufnel and Marty DiBergi from “This Is Spinal Tap” were pickup truck fans and, let’s face it, they probably were, they’d love that the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE has effectively “put it up to eleven” with its 29 MPG highway fuel economy rating.

Achieving the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE’s 21/29/25 MPG city/highway/combined figures is accomplished by way of a standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start and thermal management systems, pulse-width modulation and active aerodynamics, including grille shutters and air suspension.

When the first 2013 Ram 1500 HFE debuted with a Pentastar V-6 and the aforementioned fuel-saving accoutrement, 25 MPG was quite good and, in the full-size pickup market, yet unheard of.  Factor in Ram’s newest weapon, a 3.0-L, 240 HP EcoDiesel, however, and the bar has been “put up to 29.”

As with the Pentastar-powered Ram 1500 HFE, buyers longing for a four-wheel-drive EcoDiesel HFE model are still out of luck.  Opting for a 4×4, “non-HFE,” EcoDiesel-equipped Ram will still yield a respectable 19/27 city/highway MPG rating, however, and a 4×2, “non-HFE,” Eco-Diesel-equipped Ram achieves 20/28 city/highway MPG.

For those who might be long-haul driving in good weather, however, the EcoDiesel HFE may make all the difference.  Additionally, new for the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE is the availability of a unique trim package on the Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab four-door body, with a 6-ft. 4-in. bed and 20-inch wheels.  The Ram EcoDiesel also is available with a body-colored fascia adopted from the Ram Express model, which gives the Ram EcoDiesel HFE a sporty exterior appearance not offered on other EcoDiesel-powered Ram 1500s.
