Toyota recently released a 30 second commercial teasing a new addition to its truck line. The commercial is full of dust and dirt and purposely hiding key details, but we are able to glean the following details. Toyota is bringing the next iteration of TRD Pro package to its truck line and covers: Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner. It’s featuring aggressive red exterior, a new grill which ditches the logo and instead spells out “TOYOTA”, and many TRD Pro badges and stickers. However, the high stance of the trucks in this commercial means there substance beneath the skin.
It appears that Toyota is taking aim at the successful Ford Raptor, and the new off-road focused Toyotas will use even more aggressive off-road shocks, lower gear ratios, and other beefed up components underneath. By the way, Raptor’s grill also spells out “FORD” is huge letters.
We are likely to learn more about this during the SuperBowl or soon after at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.
