A 2014 North American International Auto Show newsletter has revealed that the 2015 GMC Canyon pickup will debut next month in Detroit. This teaser image is the only official clue, but it appears that the Canyon will have its own distinct exterior appearance.
Underneath, the next Canyon will share the platform and power trains from the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, which was unveiled in November at the 2013 LA Auto Show. There are the following engine choices: 193 HP 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 302 HP 3.6-liter V6. A 2.8-liter turbodiesel four will be available a year after launch.
In a surprise move, Chevrolet announced after the LA that a six-speed manual transmission will be offered, though only with the entry-level four-cylinder WT trim level; the better-equipped, higher-volume LS and Z71 trucks will come only with a six-speed automatic.
The Canyon should have plenty of room to position itself as a more luxurious offering, since the Colorado will be offered in WT and LT trim levels (with no luxury LTZ model).
The TFL team will be in Detroit next month and we will bring you video and information about the 2015 GMC Canyon as well as other big reveals. There is a rumor that the new 2015 Ford F-150 will have a coming out party at the 2014 NAIAS.
