This TFLtruck mashup video review compares the 2015 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost and the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. These two pickups represent the new breed of trucks. They both employ small displacement “Eco” turbocharged engines, but similarities end there.
The Ram EcoDiesel is powered by a 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel with 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque @ 2,000 rpm. The torque comes in early and strong, while the low 3.92 rear axle gear ratio helps this Outdoorsman model jump off the line. The 8-speed automatic transmission is quick to swap gears.
The F-150 is using a 2.7L V6 turbocharged gasoline motor with 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. It’s not that far away from the EcoDiesel on the torque number and delivery. The 3.55 rear axle strikes a good balance between good acceleration and cruising efficiency. The 6-speed automatic transmission continues duty in the 2015 F-150. The light-weight aluminum body of the Ford adds to its athleticism.
