The midsize truck segment suddenly became a lot more crowded as 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are hitting the dealership lots now. TFLtruck got to drive the newest Chevy pickup truck in a back-to-back comparison against the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier.
All three trucks in this comparison were Crew Cab with 4×4 and available V6 engines. The Tacoma and the Frontier have been around for many year and have fine-tuned reliability, durability, and off-road prowess. The 2015 Chevy Colorado is the new kid on the block and it’s bringing direct injection V6, 6-speed automatic, better fuel economy, and towing capability. (FYI, the maximum trailering package on the Colorado is called Z82.)
$ as Tested | HP / Torque | Transmission | EPA MPG | Max Towing | |
2015 Chevy Colorado Crew 4×4 Z71 | $34,990 | 306 / 269 | 6-speed AT | 17 / 24 | 7,000 |
2015 Toyota Tacoma Double 4×4 | $33,795 | 236 / 266 | 5-speed AT | 16 / 21 | 6,500 |

The new Chevy Colorado interior takes the midsize truck segment to new heights with materials, fit and finish quality, and advanced technology features.
The Colorado Crew cab 4×4 with the 3.6L and the shorter 5’2” bed has a curb weight of 4,380 lbs and a maximum payload of 1,520 lbs.
