The updated Tesla Semi truck is currently in Alaska for some cold weather testing. As you can see, it has a new front end. Here is everything we know so far. Let’s dig in!

The Tesla Semi has undergone field trials with the Pepsi Co. by transporting product on several routes. Some pre-production trucks have been moving Tesla cars or other supplies. Tesla is currently working to take the feedback and the learnings from the trials and update the all-electric semi truck so that it can go on sale later in 2026.

The Tesla website currently lists two versions of the semi truck: standard range and long range. The standard range has an estimated driving range of 325 miles per charge, curb weight of under 20,000 lbs, maximum power output of 1,070 horsepower, and a 1.2 MW charging speed. Tesla says that 60% of range can be added in about 30 minutes when using a fastest 1.2 MW charging station.

The truck also comes with an electric Power Take Off (ePTO) of up to 25 kW.

The long range version of the semi is said to have a maximum driving range of up to 500 miles. This truck is a bit heavier. It weight close to 23,000 lbs. Both versions of the Tesla Semi have an allowed GCWR of 82,000 lbs.

We still don’t know how the Tesla Semi price compares to some of the traditional diesel counterparts. We will update this as soon as we know more.

While the specs are very impressive, the success of the Tesla Semi still depends on the availability of the MegaWatt (1.2 MW) charging stations and their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Otherwise, the trucks should be able to do shorter regional routes with lower speed charging stations.
