How would you like to have a full-size Ford Expedition SUV that is quick enough off the line to catch and perhaps beat a stock Ford Mustang GT? What if something like was possible for about $2,500 in bolt-on parts and a 5 Star custom tune?
Ford Expedition (650 HP)
A new stock Ford Expedition is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that is rated at 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can be configured with rear-wheel-drive (2WD) or 4WD. It has several options for a rear differential ratio.
The tuned and modified Expedition you see here is a 2WD with a 3.15 rear axle ratio. It produces around 650 horsepower at the crank on E50 fuel with the help of a performance air intake system, performance turbo down-pipes and catalytic convertors, and a customized 5 Star tune that optimizes the (otherwise stock Expedition) to get the maximum power gain with an Ethanol (E50) fuel blend. The total cost of modifications is about $2,500.
The fuel is mixed with approximately 50% 93-octane gasoline and E85 Ethanol you can find at many fuel stops around the country.
In the end, a stock-looking modified grocery getter like this clocked a 4.66 second 0-60 MPH at the track. It also had a drag race win against a stock new Ford Mustang GT, which has 460 HP under the hood.
