UPDATE 8/21/2025: A Ford company spokesperson confirmed the below information showing a cheaper upgrade path to the standard-output Power Stroke turbo-diesel was indeed a glitch. It has since been corrected, and now shows the 7.3-liter Godzilla gas V8 as the default option with the Tremor package.
If you get the standard-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel, you do have to pay the $10,995 premium, making the actual starting price for the F-250 Lariat Tremor with the S.O. diesel $83,740.
There’s an interesting workaround to avoid the $10,995 upcharge for the 2026 Super Duty’s standard-output Power Stroke.
On the whole, the 2026 Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup carries over into the new model year with relatively minor changes — we covered that here. One of the more significant additions is the option of the less powerful, “standard-output” 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel with the off-road-focused Tremor Package on certain F-250 and F-350 single rear-wheel trims. If what an intrepid TFL viewer spotted on the configurator site is accurate (and not a software glitch), though, the Tremor package could be the way to unlock that mid-range diesel engine and save some serious cash in the process.
Here’s what he pointed out in his original message:
“Ford’s 2026 Super Duty builder is out and I think it has a bug (or a really good deal!). Start a new build, select F250, Crew Cab, Short Bed, Lariat. Next click to add the Tremor package, after confirming the $7815 price increase for the Tremor and HD axle upgrade you will notice the 6.7 Standard Output diesel has been selected for you for a $0 cost.
So for a grand total of $7815 added to the base Lariat, Ford is giving you the Tremor package, HD axle and a 6.7 diesel. Hell of a deal!“
If you head over to Ford’s official Build & Price page and configure your own Super Duty with the items he suggests, you’ll notice the standard-output Power Stroke — putting out 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque — is normally a $10,995 upgrade over the base 6.8-liter gas V8. Keep that number in mind as we delve into what could be some configurator wonkiness (Update: it was).
So, spec out a Ford F-250 4×4 SRW Lariat Crew Cab with a 6-and-3/4-foot bed and the diesel engine with no other options in a free exterior color (Agate Black, in this case), and the pricing comes out to $78,730.
Do some configurator jujitsu, and lo and behold…the Tremor is significantly cheaper.
Now, go back and start the configuration over again. Build the same truck, but select the Tremor Off-Road Package (which will add the High Capacity Axle Upgrade package with a bundle discount, for a total $5,010 upcharge over your base config), and you’ll land at a sticker price of $72,745. In other words, you save $5,985 over simply selecting the 4-Valve OHV Power Stroke option alone, without the Tremor Package.
Just to be clear, this could be a bug. At the moment, we’ve reached out to Ford and will come back with an update on whether that’s the case or if everything checks out. Fiddling around with the configurator a bit, that combination of Tremor package + High Capacity Axle package + diesel engine seems to work, even if you go about it in different ways.
For example, if you just select the Heavy Duty Axle package on its own, you’re forced to upgrade to the S.O. 6.7-liter Power Stroke over the base 6.8-liter gas V8, hiking the price by $12,125 in the process. Select the Tremor package again, though, and the price drops back down to what I mentioned earlier.
It’s a similar story with the F-350.
If you go over to spec out an F-350 Lariat, where the heavier-duty rear axle comes by default and isn’t an option (removing it as a variable), then select the Tremor Off-Road package, you’re greeted with the $4,450 upcharge…and that’s it.
The standard-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel is still the default option with the Tremor package, and again it doesn’t cost the $10,995 you would spend just getting the engine by itself over the base 6.8-liter engine as a standalone option. The base price for the 2026 Ford F-350 Lariat with the Tremor Off-Road package and that diesel engine is $72,745, versus $78,730 without it.
Interestingly in both cases, however, the 7.3-liter Godzilla gas V8 is still a $1,500 premium, even when the diesel becomes the default on the Tremor. So, like I said, this could be a bug, and may be subject to change with a subsequent back-end update to Ford’s configurator page if that was indeed made an error. (Update: It was a bug: See the correction point above)
