TFLtruck gets the first world-exclusive and personal look at the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado and it reveals a few more surprises. I have an opportunity to climb inside and out of the new Colorado ZR2 with a Desert Boss package. This is now the most off-road focused midsize pickup truck from General Motors (at least until the new GMC Canyon AT4X is revealed).
2023 Chevy Colorado
The all-new Colorado grows a bit in size over the outgoing model. The wheelbase increases by 3.1 inches and the overall length increases by just under one inch. The truck does not appear overly large in person, but it is tall! It’s tall because of the latest suspension lift and 33-inch tall all-terrain / mud-terrain tires. The truck’s stance looks just right and proportional. The ZR2’s suspension and track width are nearly three inches wider than a standard new Colorado’s suspension. This is done with unique front A-arms and a widened rear axle.
The exterior design is all new, but when I tried to turn on the headlights (and fog lights), I realized that these controls are now inside the central infotainment screen. There is no standalone hard switch or knob to control the headlight operation. Naturally, the headlights will also turn on automatically when it gets dark.
The front bumper on this ZR2 Desert Boss is winch-ready, according to Chevrolet. The pre-production truck that I saw did not have a winch installed.
The interior is also all new and it’s a huge leap over what it was before. It resembles the latest 2022 Chevy Silverado interior, but all aspects of the interior are just a little smaller. It still feels very comfortable and the Google-based infotainment system is intuitive. The transmission shift lever on the center console falls right at hand.
There is a new Overlanding screen that show the truck’s compass direction, latitude, longitude, and current elevation. The off-road screen shows the current drive mode and the current status of the 4WD system. The transfer case offers 2HI, 4Hi, 4-Auto, and 4Lo.
