We take the new Ford Ranger FX4 midsize truck and the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon on an off-road trail to see how these pickups handle it. You may think that the Gladiator runs away with a great performance, but the results are surprising.
The Rubicon represents the most off-road capable Jeep truck. It has additional ground clearance over a standard Gladiator. It has front and rear locking differentials. Disconnecting front sway-bar that allows for more wheel travel, Off-Road+ traction control system, crawl control, and much more.
The FX4-equipped Ranger is the most off-road capable Ford midsize truck. It has steel skid plates, special tires, rear locking differential, terrain management system, and a sophisticated crawl control system.
The Jeep has more ground clearance and better articulation, but the Jeep is also considerably longer in wheelbase and overall length.
