Volta trucks, who designed the Volta Zero EV truck, just agreed to have Steyr Automotive (based in Austria) to build their truck.
The agreement between Volta Trucks and Steyr Tractors indicates that production will begin by the end of 2022. Weighing in at eight tons dry, the Volta Zero is a 16-ton delivery truck that’s all-electric with an empty or dry driving range of 150 to 200 kilometers (up to 125 miles). That range depends on the battery you choose and the load the truck is carrying. Other than being all-electric, the truck uses many innovative upgrades. That includes things like a center driver’s seat and a fossil-fuel-free refrigeration option.
The range may be low by some standards. Volta says a majority of consumers will opt for a short-range city vehicle. That’s the whole purpose of the truck.
Volta Zero trucks will be manufactured in Steyr, Austria, by Steyr Automotive – which used to be MAN Truck and Bus Austria. As production ramps up in Europe, Volta Trucks is interested in expanding in Asia and the United States.
