Oh Look! Another Cool Ford Ranger we Won’t Get in the US: Ford Ranger Storm Concept

Why don't we get the cool Rangers?

The São Paolo International Motor Show is happening this week in Brazil. Ford used the show as an opportunity to unveil the Ford Ranger Storm Concept. This off-road concept looks close to production ready, but unfortunately, it won’t be coming to the U.S.

What is it?

Ford have given this off-road concept some really cool add-ons to help it go anywhere. Included in the concept is an integrated snorkel, underbody protection, 17-inch alloy wheels with BFGoodrich all-terrains to provide extra grip, off-road bumpers that reduce the chin spoiler, running boards, and it looks like Ford have given the Ford Ranger Storm Concept a slight lift.

Of course, you can’t forget about the ‘Storm’ grill insert and special graphics package. Plus, that roof rack that wraps around the back of the roof into the bed area.

Under the hood is a 3.2L turbocharged Duratorq five-cylinder diesel that makes 200 horsepower and over 350 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Why Can’t We Buy it?

This is the same question we are asking ourselves about the Ford Ranger Raptor. I suspect the answer is largely the same for both trucks. Ford says they can’t bring that Ranger Raptor here because it is based on the global Ranger T6 platform that makes use of that diesel powertrain. The Ford Ranger Storm Concept is similarly based on the global platform, and also uses the diesel powertrains that we wont get on the Ranger here in the US.

Unfortunately, there is still a lot we don’t know about the Ford Ranger Storm Concept. We don’t know pricing, or when it will be on sale. To learn more about the Storm Concept, you’ll just have to stay tuned to TFLtruck.com.

Nathan finally had the chance to play with the new Ranger, to see what he thought, be sure to check out the video below:
