Heat is being turned up with the redesigned 2014 Ford Transit Connect commercial van (it also comes as a minivan or “wagon”). The commercial version is EPA rated at 22 MPG city / 30 MPG highway and 25 MPG combined when equipped with optional 1.6-liter EcoBoost four cylinder power plant. This turbo charged engine is a $795 option over the standard 2.5-liter four banger. The 2.5L is rated a little lower at 21 / 29 / 24 MPG. The EcoBoost is rated at 178 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque and will be a better choice for high altitude deliveries, in place like Colorado.
The new Transit Connect has 130.6 cu-ft of interior cargo volume. It can carry a maximum payload of 1,710 lbs or tow up to 2,000 lbs. OK, so it’s not really meant for towing, but the volume and payload numbers are impressive.
Ford claims this fuel economy is best in class and can save you hundreds of dollars in fuel over a 5-year period over competitors such as Nissan NV200 and Ram C/V.
